Jewel Pet 31: Rabbitwalk

You might think that the Jewel Pet anime is just a vehicle for promoting the sale of various outrageously impossible characters.  It isn’t.  It’s a vehicle for the Pets to promote their own outrageous antics.

And it begins...

For example, on the surface this episode was concerned with evil Diana’s new ability to impress two pawprints on her victims, rather than her usual single one.  I’m sure this is what was on the script, and nothing more.  But Ruby Rabbit went off and hijacked it and wrote in her own private fashion show during the school festival!

Tahiti wedding?

Very pearly.  I think the motto for this first outfit is: “The world is my oyster.”

Lucky it's a fine day...

The mermaid getup avoids cliché by the bold addition of cherries.  Ruby seems to be saying: “I will tread upon the points of sharp knives for the sake of fashion.”  Is this too obscure?

Fact-finding mission

Either she’s going to some New England boarding school or she’s Mr. Holmes new intern.  Anyway, the shoes look comfy.

The ears, the ears, the ears!

Notice how her blossom has gone purple to match the cape.  Broom optional?

Scrumptious.

Before you accuse her of being an egotistical maniac, note the replicas of Garnet and Sapphy.

But just when you thought that was the icing of the cake, things get more delicious.  A fire breaks out in the festival, and incompetent magic-user Rinko wields her Jewel Stick to snuff it out.  Alas, all it does is transform her crew into firefighters.  Huh.  Well, that’s fine, right.  But…because her skill is so low, she can only turn them into Edo-period (1603-1868) firefighters!!

Does this even make sense?  So if someone even more incompetent like Ruby had used the Stick they’d have all turned into medieval firefighters??  And if a powerful wizard were to do it they’d be futuristic firefighters???

Ah, now I get it.  This is just an excuse to get Ruby and co. in these cute period outfits:

...

I mean, come on!  Ruby is not even serious about fighting this fire at all!

In any case, Diana finally shows up and she’s angry as ever.

Anger Mgmt course, now!

She blabbers on to the Pets about how her magic powers up every time she uses it.  Then Ruby instantly misconstrues this “power-up” business as:

Diana quashes this, obviously:

Oops, too late!

I think she’s angry because Ruby has just exploited her for cuteness purposes.  What’s cuter than a black beribboned kitty lifting weights?

  1. So as both a Japanese and Jewel Pet expert….how good would the fansubs be for this? Pat’s been bitching that I watch it because apparently it’s got subs now but we all know her opinion’s null.

    • i’ve seen fansubs around for just the first 3 or 4 episodes…Are there actually people subbing the whole thing now?? The script is quite simple so I should think any decent fansub crew could do a solid job. As for the quality of the show, if you’re into CUTE then you’ll love it. The jokes are funny, a lot of them are puns, but there’s plenty of universally intelligible slapstick too…

      • Well I’ve only seen subs for the first few episodes……but ak you bastard, must you give me no excuse to watch this? Eh, I’ll just say I’m busy (which is true) and watch it in one sitting when it’s all done.

  2. I have run out of ways to express how fucking cute these bastards are.

    • You need to study more cuteness vocab. I’d start with the triple: “OMG kawaii naarak!!” , combining English, Japanese and Thai for maximum effect.

  3. I’m starting to crack up this one… XDD
Diana can’t really take a joke does she.
